Jessica Zimmer – Inutitive Landscapes

I place a great deal of importance on the deep value beauty holds in the wellbeing of a society. Without it, I believe we suffer. Each piece happens intuitively and is an active dance of consideration and spontaneity. Jessica often uses a specific color as a starting point for her paintings but allows the rest of the composition to flow freely and unencumbered by preconceived plans. The pictures reveal themselves in real-time, making each blank sheet of paper an exciting (and mysterious) exercise.

Inspired by her travels, nature, film, music, and artists before her, some favorite sources of inspiration include films by Merchant Ivory and Luca Guadagnino, the light and landscapes of Maine, Nova Scotia, Iceland, and Venice, Italy, the paintings of Agnes Martin, Hilda af Klint, Johannes Vermeer, Yves Klein, and Mark Rothko, and the sculptures of Henry Moore and Richard Serra

Jim Zimmer – Exploring the boundaries of art and object

The possibilities of parameterless creation. These pieces stem from a need to pull myself away from my day-to-day work created for the approval of other people to make work to please myself. I wanted to make things that weren’t overly analyzed or poured over for hours. Things that were fun to assemble and allowed my mind space to think more freely. No parameters. No self-imposed limits. Subconsciously, themes such as calm, pain, serenity, and wandering arose out of the process and extended across several of the pieces by way of composition, materials, and technique. In his studio practice, Zimmer utilizes common yet unexpected materials, working with a kind of automatism, exploring the boundaries of art and object, and the possibilities of parameterless creation.
